Day Five
Got up and grabbed a gooey cinnamon roll from a local bakery. Yummy
Our plan was to head over to Hyder AK from Stewart B.C, they’re next door to each other but in different countries, in the morning to see the bears at fish creek. They have raised platforms to watch the bears feeding on the spawning salmon. Saw lots of salmon, no bears. So we headed up a dirt road 17 miles to the Salmon Glacier. It was an amazing sight, took some photos and headed back to the hotel, though we didn’t make check out time. Loaded up the bikes and heading for Dease Lake where we’re staying the night. Had a great ride, though I was ready to get off at the end of the day.
Beautiful weather and great roads most of the time. The first 175 miles to Kinaskan Lake were great, smooth pavement and lots of fast curves, after that the center line disappeared. Reminded me of old two lane country roads, though the pavement was still pretty good. Near the end we had some sections of gravel for a few miles, we were still able to ride about 45mph.
Along the way we met another rider on a BMW from the Bay Area, and Pete Chester’s who Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina on a Yamaha XT225. He’s now riding a Suzuki SU 250 towards Alaska.
We’ll be heading towards Watson Lake in the morning.
